Food For Fines

For many years, the Library has partnered with the United Community Concerns Association (UCCA) to provide canned and other food at Thanksgiving for those in need. This year, we added a special April food drive, while giving you a break on your library fines.

As UCCA explains on their website: “The UCCA strives to identify those who are the most vulnerable in our community, the children and their families in our Elmhurst schools. The UCCA then provides food, resources, referrals, and service to those families. The UCCA takes great pride in the fact that over 99% of all funds collected go to feed those in need in our own community.”

During National Library Week (April 9-15) reduce your fines while helping out those in need. For every nonperishable food item one fine is waived, up to a maximum five fines. If you don’t have any fines, you can still drop off canned food items at the Library to benefit United Community Concerns of Elmhurst.

As you select your donation, please consider the healthfulness of the food items. The items that you donate through Food for Fines help to provide vital nutrition for a food insecure population in Elmhurst. The families and individuals who receive assistance from UCCA rely on them for healthy, nutritious ingredients and meals.

Details:

  • Bring your donations to the Checkout Desk between April 19-15.
  • Waived fines only; not lost item fees, processing fees, collection agency fees, or lost library card fees.
  • We cannot accept expired food.
  • For both Elmhurst Public Library cardholders and cardholders from other library.
