  • United States Code: Browse Government Printing Office offers the laws of the United States online as text, browsable by title, chapter, sub-chapter, and section.
  • Illinois Compiled Statutes Information maintained by the Legislative Reference Bureau. Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process. Recent laws may not yet be included in the ILCS database, but they are found on this site as Public Acts soon after they become law.

Voter Information

For the November 5, 2024 General Election, DuPage County voters may cast their ballots through vote by mail, during in-person early voting starting September 26, 2024, or by voting on election day at any polling place in DuPage county (or at your own polling place in Cook County). Requests to vote by mail must be received by the Election Authority at least 5 days prior to the election, but voters are encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible.

The first wave of vote by mail ballots is sent out 40 days prior to the election and may take 4-5 business days to arrive at voters’ mailboxes. To make sure your vote by mail ballot gets counted, fill it out and mail it back or turn it in at a polling place as soon as possible. To be counted, the ballot must be postmarked by election day.

  • Politifact Investigates the veracity of claims made by politicians. This not-for-profit site is funded by partnerships, advertising, and grants.

Tax Information

The Library does not carry tax forms, but most tax forms and publications can be printed off of the pages below and staff are happy to help you print forms. Many of the popular publications regarding tax preparation are available for checkout from the Library. The IRS and the state of Illinois will start accepting tax returns for tax year 2023 on January 29, 2024.

  • The Elmhurst Park District provides income tax assistance for seniors age 60 and older doing simple tax returns at Mary E. Kies Recreation at Centennial Park from February 5, 2024 through April 11, 2024. Call 630-993-8193 to set up an appointment.
  • The College of DuPage can prepare tax returns for all community members regardless of age and income level. This service is by appointment only and is performed by accountancy students supervised by IRS-certified faculty.
  • The AARP foundation Tax Aide Locator will lead you to tax preparation help for individuals with low-to moderate-income – especially those 60 and older.
